Cortijo de Romualda was built at the beginning of the last century as a small farm. We became the owners in 2010, and to make it a nice family holiday home, we renovated it for 2 entire years. You can read more about the history of the house here.

Before the renovation, the house was in a quite deteriorated state (it was basically a ruin). Therefore only the old stone walls could be reused, resulting in a house that is modern both inside and out. But to maintain the spirit of the previous owner (an old family friend) it has been kept sleek and without unnecessary frills. Nowadays we have also built a modest private swimming pool.

Under the modern minimalist look, the old walls have been maintained. They are 50 cm thick and made from boulders that are ideal for the climate. In the summer, when it is sometimes well above 30 degrees outside, the temperature inside remains fairly constant. The difference between inside and out can sometimes be 10 degrees! Combined with ceiling fans, good insulation, double glazing and sun shutters, this ensures a pleasant natural climate in the house.

Cortijo de Romualda has an unobstructed view of approximately half a hectare of private land, with mountains directly behind it. It is located on the outskirts of the hamlet of Los Majanos, consisting of 7 houses mainly inhabited by older Spaniards. Los Majanos belongs to Fernan Perez, the village a 5 minutes walk away. In Fernan Perez, you will find Fina's shop, where everyone from the village comes to exchange the latest gossip and where you can buy everything you need. The village square is home to the bar of Lola and her sons. Go eat a tapa and have a hearty lunch with the workmen from the area. Unlike the villages on the coast, in Fernan Perez, most of the houses belong to actual locals and not tourists. This means that also in winter, the village is full of life and the pub is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner
